: customer service is dead :

customer service is dead... and it smells bad.

VistaPrint is a digital printing company that also offers cheap business cards, rubber stamps, stationery, other junk… and it sucks.

I ordered a rubber address stamp from VistaPrint a month ago, and the order arrived incomplete. I sent an e-mail to them immediately to report the issue. No response. Three weeks later, I get the following e-mail: "Due to technical difficulties and overwhelming volume, we are unable to respond to your e-mail".

Wait. What kind of company sends me an e-mail to tell me that they can’t respond to my e-mail?! Granted, I should have just called them in the first place, so I take full accountability for my own suckage. However, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect an e-mail response from a company who offers web-based printing services. This is the exact same crappy customer service that I get at Best Buy and Walmart and every other large retailer that is driving this country into the ground. (deep breath)

I’m all about ‘buy handmade’ and ‘support small businesses’. So, why did I buy from those assholes in the first place? I’m certainly not the only one. Lots of crafters on Etsy use VistaPrint because their name is everywhere and they offer cheap business cards. What you may or may not know is that VistaPrint is a publicly owned, multi-million dollar corporation, whose major printing facilities, customer service centers, and employees are located in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Canada, and the Netherlands.

You know what? Fuck that. Small businesses and crafters should be the last people buying from big businesses like VistaPrint. You need a rubber stamp? Here are some on Etsy. You need some business cards? Here are some on Etsy. We have the option to buy things from independent businesses who will actually work to make sure we’re satisfied with our purchase. We need to make conscious decisions about where we spend our dollars, and crafters (like ME) should know better.

End rant.
